The Nanoform 200UPx multiaxis diamond machining system from Precitech Inc. is controlled with QNX, a real-time operating system with a fast block execution rate. Users can adapt the virus-resistant controller to specialized applications and retrofit it to existing machines. With QNX, operators also can access and run Windows, Linux and Unix applications without compromising reliability, according to the company. The system, used for lens molds, precision optics, MEMS/micro-optics and precision mechanical components, features linear motor technology, a 7000-rpm production spindle, 1.0-nm programming resolution and hydrostatic oil bearing slideways.
