Integrated Optical Systems - TinsleyRequest Info
Precision Optics Tinsley Laboratories, a leading supplier of aspheric optics and a subsidiary of SSG Precision Optronics, recently delivered optics for the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS), which was installed in the Hubble Space Telescope during Servicing Mission 3B, launched aboard the space shuttle Columbia (STS-109). The ACS increases the discovery efficiency of the telescope by a factor of 10.

Another recent delivery was the primary and secondary mirror for the Space Infrared Telescope Facility, which is scheduled to launch April 15, 2003. During its 2½-year mission, it will obtain images and spectra by detecting the infrared energy, or heat, radiated by objects in space between wavelengths of 3 and 180 µm.

Founded in 1926, Tinsley has been a leader in computer-aided processes and equipment. Tinsley has overcome the historical disadvantages of aspheres by developing unique and sophisticated automated manufacturing capabilities. Applications facilitated by Tinsley technology include ultraprecise optics for commercial industry, laser fusion, space and astronomy, and reconnaissance and defense.
