Smaller-scale optical switches for telecommunications, defense, and test and measurement applications have been added to Polatis Ltd.'s product line. The devices are now available in configuration ranges of 4 X 4 to 16 X 16 ports. Based on a scalable 3-D architecture, they use direct beam steering to ensure that the optical loss is uniform across all paths between ports. The devices feature <1-dB insertion loss, <0.05-dB polarization-dependent loss and 30-dBm power handling.
