The Magellan family of motion processors has been released by Performance Motion Devices Inc. for semiconductor, scientific and industrial applications. Available in one-, two, three- and four-axis configurations, they provide IC-based control for DC brush, brushless DC, microstepping, and pulse and direction motors. They accept parameters from a host microprocessor, generate a corresponding trajectory and provide profile generation, servo-loop closure, PLC-style signal manipulation and motor signal generation. Features include a programmable PID filter with velocity and acceleration feed-forward, 32-bit position error and multiaxis synchronization. Four selectable profile modes are supported.
