A violet-emitting laser diode from Latronics GmbH, the LDM405D.70, offers CW output power of >70 mW at 405 nm. It also is available with up to 500-MHz digital or up to 350-MHz analog modulation. Pointing stability is <5 µrad/°C, noise is <1% rms and, the company says, the laser provides stable emission and diffraction-limited beam quality. Rise and fall time is 1 ns from 0 to 100% of output emission. The controller operates in constant-current or constant-power mode and, optionally, the laser can be controlled via an RS-232 interface. It is suitable for DVD mastering, biotechnology and scientific applications.
