Color Measurement with True-Color ICs
WILMINGTON, Mass., March 25 -- Laser Components GmbH has introduced JenColour, a product line of color sensor integrated circuits (ICs) that combines the qualitative advantages of an interference filter directly deposited onto a Si-wafer with a PIN-diode technology optimized for the visual wavelength range. This technology has already been proven in many applications where color recognition in the automated process technology and simple measurement tasks for color deviation using hand-held equipment were solved.
   The achievable quality of the color measurement significantly depends on the type and quality of the filter function. The new generation of color sensors is based on the implementation of the standard distribution functions as defined in the DIN 5033. This implementation method allows a color measurement with spectral properties using the three-range procedure. Compared to conventional standard PIN technologies, which reach their maximum between 600 nm and 800 nm and a lower sensitivity in the blue spectral range, the maximum sensitivity of the technology used in JenColour is approx. 580 nm.
