The ScalarGauge I-50 from Scalar Technologies Ltd. is an in-line system for measuring the thickness of transparent films and coatings in process automation and control applications. It uses broad-spectrum reflection interferometry in the visible and the near-IR, and operates with an integrated scanner that is designed to mount on coating/converting machinery. It includes software that features profile and trend measurements. The company says that the device produces accurate noncontact measurements and can measure multiple layers simultaneously. Data are exported through an Ethernet port. Two sensors are available, measuring from 0.5 to 100 µm and 0.5 to 50 µm, respectively. The system is factory-calibrated and requires no further calibration.
