A variety of optical filters are available from Union Optic Inc., including infrared-pass, infrared-cut and color optical glass types. The infrared-pass filters, with cutoff wavelengths including 630, 780, 830 and 850 nm, block all visible light and are made of precision-ground and -polished glass. The infrared-cut versions block IR rays from 780 nm while letting visible rays pass. They are used to protect IR-sensitive CCD sensors or in illumination systems. The color optical glass filters selectively absorb in the visible wavelength range and are used for industrial and analytical measurement in production, and research and development, as well as in environmental protection and medicine.

optical filters
An optical element that blocks or transmits a selected wavelength of light. Optical filters can either be absorption filters or interference filters. Absorption filters absorb any unwanted wavelengths while the interference filter will use the effects of constructive and destructive superposition to transmit only the selected wavelength.
