On-chip electron-multiplication CCD image sensors in the sensicam -- em camera system available from PCO AG produce noise values of <1 e– rms with >200 gain, at a pixel clock speed of 16 MHz. Spatial resolution is 1000 × 1000 pixels, and quantum efficiency is up to 65% in the visible range. TE-cooled to –16 °C, the camera offers 12-bit dynamic resolution and is suitable for single-photon detection and other low-light applications. A serial high-speed interface transmits data to the PC, and a fiber optic connection is available.
