Soft Imaging System Corp. has upgraded its 2k × 2k tunneling electron microscope camera, Cantega2k, with three readout rates. It attains up to 5 fps with 14-bit depth at 3 and 5 MHz. At 1 MHz, the camera acquires images at a true 16-bit depth. An integrated partial readout mode can produce higher frame rates. The scintillator and CCD chip are fiber optically coupled, and the chip is cooled down to –40 °C, resulting in both high sensitivity and signal yield, and a good signal-to-noise ratio. Exposure times range from 1 ms to 100 s. Integrated analySis image analysis software performs real-time functions such as shading correction, gray-value histograms, automatic contrast enhancement and fast Fourier transform. Applications include biomedical and life and materials sciences.
