Thorlabs Inc.'s achromatic wave plates are zero-order retarders that use two birefringent materials, crystalline quartz and magnesium fluoride, to balance dispersion and to provide a nominally flat spectral response. Each wave plate is computer-designed and optimized for minimum root mean square retardance error over a broad spectral range. They are air-spaced, have antireflection coatings on all surfaces for low insertion loss, and can handle high optical powers. Quarter and half versions are available. Surface quality is 40-20 scratch-dig, transmitted wavefront error is <λ/4, and beam deviation is <1 arc min.
