Fujikura Europe Ltd.'s FSM-50S, a single-mode core-aligning fusion splicer, achieves a splice time of 9 s and splice protector shrink time of 35 s, reducing cycle time to half of what its predecessor provided. A reversible monitor can be placed at the back or front of the device for increased flexibility. The FSM-50S weighs 2.8 kg, including the AC adapter, and is equipped with a proprietary profile alignment system for precise core-to-core fiber alignment, low splice loss and accurate loss estimation. The fiber clamp arms are built into the wind protector assembly, reducing operation time and increasing productivity. It is suitable for broadband applications for fiber-to-subscribers, field contractors and independent telecommunications companies.
