The ultrahigh-resolution DC mode of motor operation introduced by Nanomotion Inc. yields discrete moves of 1 nm. It combines the standard resonant mode for long travel and high speed with the nonresonant mode, which, once in position, can generate a move from 1 to 300 nm for ultrafine positioning. The company says that the patented technology offers unlimited travel and has no intrinsic magnetic field. Its ability to drive linear and rotary devices makes it suitable for semiconductor, fiber optic, electronics, biomedical, pharmaceutical, automotive and general assembly manufacturing equipment applications.
