FO SPECTROMETER Avantes BV has introduced the AvaSpec-2048TEC, a thermoelectrically cooled fiber optic spectrometer suitable for low-light-level applications that require integration times of >5 s, including fluorescence and Raman measurements. It has a Sony 2048 CCD detector mounted on a one-stage Peltier cooling element that cools and stabilizes in about 90 s. Cooling also improves the signal-to-noise ratio by a factor of eight and reduces the photoresponse nonuniformity and dark noise by a factor of 10 to 20. The instrument, available in single- or dual-channel models, features 14-bit A/D conversion, USB and RS-232 interfaces, and 14 digital I/O channels.
