Kapteyn-Murnane Laboratories has unveiled Cascade, a cavity-dumped Ti:sapphire laser system. By incorporating an acousto-optic modulator into its cavity, it can extract high-intensity pulses and yield output pulse energies of more than 25 nJ. The repetition rate can be varied between 40 kHz and 2 MHz, and the laser can generate pulses as short as 15 fs or be operated at longer pulse durations and tuned in wavelengths higher than 100 nm. Applications for the Cascade include nonlinear microscopy, and ultrafast spectroscopy and laser micromachining.
