BEAM COMBINING
Lockheed Martin Laser and Sensor SystemsRequest Info
Aculight Corp. has combined into a single light source the outputs from seven diode laser bars, each containing 200 single-mode emitters, to generate 26 W of near-diffraction-limited light at 820 nm. Spectral beam combining is a power-scalable technique that overlays the outputs of many laser emitters into one beam and paves the way for the use of diode lasers in applications that demand high-power, high-beam-quality light, including laser projection displays and photodynamic therapy. The company says that, by adding a few optical components to some diode bars, it has improved the optical quality by a factor of 1000 and created a light source that can be reproduced in any wavelength for which diode lasers are available.
