Cetac Technologies' LSX-3000 laser ablation system is now available in a 213-nm-only version for materials that are difficult to ablate, such as quartz and calcite. Via an Nd:YAG laser head, the system delivers energies of >12 mJ to the sample. Pulse width is <6 ns, and spot sizes range from 10 to 500 µm. Computer-controlled high-resolution optics provide 503 to 8003 magnification. The dual-computer-operated mass flow controllers enable the user to control the argon carrier gas and to bleed helium into the sample cell simultaneously.
