Faraday optical isolators available from Del Mar Ventures eliminate laser backreflection by allowing propagation of linearly polarized light in one direction while blocking it in the reverse. They contain two polarizers and a Faraday rotator that comprises a magneto-optical glass rod inside a permanent magnet. The antireflection-coated rod, polished to a flatness of l/10, exhibits parallelism better than 10 arc sec. The isolators are aligned for a central wavelength of 800 nm and can be tuned from 765 to 835 nm by changing the rod's position.
