The FAST-SC connector unveiled by Fujikura Europe Ltd. is factory-polished, can be installed in the field and offers a fiber connectorization time of <1 min, including preparation. V-groove mechanical splicing eliminates the need for epoxies. Average insertion loss for single-mode is 0.2 dB, with return loss of 55 dB. For multimode GI62.5, average insertion loss is 0.03 dB, with 0.07 dB for multimode GI50.0. The connector is suitable for optical wiring in buildings and for fiber-to-the-home applications.
