Pleora Technologies Inc. has released its iPort Hydra software, which enables full-duplex real-time data streaming between Gigabit Ethernet-connected computers with off-the-shelf hardware. While providing flexibility and improving performance, the communications software reduces the cost of vision applications that have demanding processing requirements, such as inspection of semiconductor wafers and flat panel displays, and postal sorting. The need for specialized hardware, such as frame grabbers or digital signal processing boards, is reduced or eliminated. The software runs on computers equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet chip from Intel's 8254× series.
