The DPC5500 from Thorlabs Inc. is a deterministic polarization controller that enables true control of the output polarization state, rather than of the polarization transformation function, as well as fast and precise locking to a target state and controlled scrambling of the polarization states over the Poincaré sphere, without any white spots. It can trace a predefined path across the sphere and enables the stable, optimal launch of light through a polarizer or into a polarization-maintaining fiber. The company says that the instrument is technologically better than existing polarization-dependent-loss, polarization-mode-dispersion and parameter-measurement devices.
