Cobolt AB has unveiled a single-mode longitudinal version of its Cobolt Blues 473-nm diode-pumped solid-state laser, available at 20 and 50 mW, and of its Samba 532-nm laser, available with 100 mW of output. With their compact design, high beam quality, electrical-to-optical conversion efficiency and amplitude stability, they are suitable for a variety of uses, including display systems, bioanalysis techniques and sensor applications. The devices can be used as replacements for argon-ion lasers.

GLOSSARY
diode-pumped solid-state laser
A compact solid-state laser, referred to as DPSSL, created when a laser diode pumps light into either the sides or end of gain crystal. Depending on where the pumping occurs, high-quality and stable output beams can be achieved with end-pumped lasers, and high-power output beams can be realized as with side-pumped lasers. Common in green laser pointers, DPSSLs are also used for a variety of materials processing applications, such as cutting and precision marking, and in optogenetics.
