VACUUM COATING SYSTEMS High-vacuum coating systems for optics applications are being offered by Pfeiffer Vacuum GmbH. Optical thin-film coatings such as antireflection types, optical filters, beamsplitters and laser mirrors can be produced. Six standard sizes, from small coaters for R&D to high-throughput production systems, are available. The company also will provide custom sizes. Turbo pumps and cryo or oil diffusion pumps are available to create a constant vacuum, and all systems can be equipped with a Meissner trap to reduce water vapor. Process equipment includes resistance and electron beam evaporators, ion-assisted deposition sources and sputter magnetrons.

optical filters
An optical element that blocks or transmits a selected wavelength of light. Optical filters can either be absorption filters or interference filters. Absorption filters absorb any unwanted wavelengths while the interference filter will use the effects of constructive and destructive superposition to transmit only the selected wavelength.
