CAMPINAS, Brazil and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 24 -- FiberWork, a developer of fiber optic technology, has introduced the OSPA, its optical S-parameter analyzer, which is will exhibit at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC), being held March 6-11 in Anaheim, Calif.

The OSPA is a fast platform for full and accurate characterization of passive optical devices such as fiber gratings, interference filters, AWGs, dispersion compensators, optical multiplexers, demultiplexers and photonic crystal fiber devices. It can quickly, accurately and cost-effectively perform all optical tests specific to those components. Built around an original interferometric technique, the OSPA analyzes a device under test through optical "S" parameters,

FiberWork's CTO, Sergio Barcelos, said the OSPA's competing solutions work only with a specific tunable laser, which restrains their applications and dramatically increases the price of the full-measurement system. On the other hand, the OSPA's ability to work with any tunable laser allows small laboratories as well as big companies to afford the investment, he added. "The OSPA is to photonics as the oscilloscope is to electronics," Barcelos said. "The OSPA is basically a 'photonic oscilloscope.'
