Crystalbond 590 is a high-strength thermoplastic temporary mounting adhesive that bonds advanced ceramics, optical components and semiconductors for dicing and polishing operations. Manufactured by Aremco Products Inc., it is available in a 5/8 × 11/4 × 71/2-in. bar that the company says is easy to use. A mounting plate is preheated to 300 °F, and the adhesive is melted and spread in a uniform layer. The part is positioned and the assembly left to cool. After machining, Crystalbond dissolves easily in isopropyl alcohol in a proprietary 590-S stripper. Applications include mounting for dicing of semiconductors, dense ceramics and single crystals; and for lapping and polishing of optical components.
