They come in a variety of sizes and surface finishes, and may be ordered to special thicknesses with tight tolerances including wafers as thin as 0.001 in. Glass wafers are available in soda lime, BK 7, borosilicate glasses such as 7059 and Pyrex, and quartz. Surface finishes to 10/5 are available. Ceramic wafers come with 99.6% and 96% alumina and aluminum nitride scratch-free finishes to 0.3 µin.
