Ericsson Network Technologies AB has launched a fusion splicer for large-diameter optical fibers. With the touch of a button, the FSU 15 LD automatically splices fibers up to 600 µm in diameter, regardless of their shape. Features include core alignment, rare-earth-doped fiber splicing, high-speed cycle time and proprietary warm-splice image-processing technology. It is suitable for double-clad fiber splicing and fiber laser manufacturing, as well as for military/government, aerospace and medical applications. It has platforms for fiber holders to provide high-strength splicing.
