Launched by Albis Optoelectronics AG, the PDCS200E is a 180-µm-thick, side-illuminated photodiode that is optimized to monitor the output power of edge-emitting laser chips. It receives the light emitted at the laser back facet directly through its side facet instead of through the top surface. Positioned behind a Fabry-Perot or a distributed feedback laser, it requires no submount because the chip's curved side surface diffracts the incoming light onto the photodiode active area. The company says that the curved side facet and large optical aperture deliver high responsivity.
