Westwind Air Bearings Ltd. is offering the Poly625, a line of polygon scanners that require an air supply and that operate as fast as 40,000 rpm. Three standard polygon bearing designs are available to accommodate various speed requirements and mirror sizes. The company says that the devices are more efficient and deliver higher scan frequency and better optical quality and repeatability than typical scanners, and produce no backlash. They contain no contacting parts, resulting in low vibration and friction, fewer in- and cross-scan errors, and longer life. The scanners are fitted with an optical encoder, and matched drives also are available. Applications include prepress image setting, printed circuit board imaging, inspection equipment and internal drum rotary scanning.
