A 64-bit LVDS/RS-422 frame grabber with powerful preprocessing capabilities has been launched by Matrox Imaging. The Matrox Helios XD uses a proprietary ASIC chip, which combines a PCI-X controller with a powerful processor core to handle image formatting and preprocessing tasks that are usually done by the host CPU. The device supports four independent 16-bit-wide inputs that can be configured to acquire data from two-, four- and eight-tap monochrome and RGB sources. Programmed with Matrox Imaging Library software, the Helios XD is optimized to accelerate many image processing functions. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.
