Newnex Technology Corp. has introduced the FireNEX800 1394b MMF glass fiber optical repeater that extends 1394b signals up to 1000 m at a data rate of up to 800 Mb/s. The repeater has two IEEE-1394b copper bilingual ports and one 1394b optical port with an LC connector, is backward-compatible with the 1394a standard, and works with both PCs and Macs. The device measures 80 × 68 × 27 mm, weighs 170 g and consumes 3 W.
