PicoQuant GmbH has introduced 280-, 295-, 310- and 340-nm pulsed LED sources as replacements for nitrogen and excimer lasers and flashlamps in bioanalysis, biochemistry, genetics, optical storage, semiconductor characterization and quality control applications. The PLS series LED heads feature pulse widths of 500 ps and average powers of up to 2 µW, depending on wavelength. Compatible with the company’s PDL 808 Sepia and PDL 800-B diode laser drivers, the LEDs are supplied in two versions, optimized for either repetition rate or output power. The former offer repetition rates of up to 40 MHz; the latter are limited to 10 MHz.
