Version 3.0 of CrystalWave photonic crystal simulation software has been released by Photon Design and, the company says, is 10% to 15% faster. Losses and dispersion are handled by the calculation engines, enabling metals and semiconductors to be modeled, and a materials database contains refractive index models for common ones. The finite difference time-domain (FDTD) engine includes Drude, Debye and Lorentzian models to match the dispersion spectra of a variety of materials. Better ex-citors and sensors as well as improvements to the FDTD calculations provide greater flexibility for defining simulations.
