BOZEMAN, Mont., Nov. 15 -- Laser diode instrumentation and test systems maker ILX Lightwave has announced the availability of a free Laser Reliability Workbook. This Excel-based workbook may be used for analyzing and plotting laser diode and LED lifetime data, with room for up to 100 lifetime data points to be entered.

The workbook automatically calculates and displays best-fit Weibull and lognormal probability distributions. Distribution parameters and times-to-failure are also calculated. Built-in Arrenhius-model calculations may be used to estimate time-to-failure at a second temperature. Instructions on how to use the workbook and five sets of example data are provided.
