American Fibertek Inc.’s 480 and 487 series digital data systems are designed to transmit and receive digital signals over optical fiber, providing designers with an efficient transmission solution for network-based security systems. The multiprotocol 480 transmits and receives a single channel of data (RS-485, -422, -232 or Manchester code) over one single-mode or multimode optical fiber. For complex configurations, the 487 transmits and receives two RS-422/-485 signals over a single fiber. The units can be biased or nonbiased and configured for two- or four-wire operation with the flip of a switch and are available as stand-alone modules or as rack cards for use in the company’s card cages.
