Toptica Photonics AG has unveiled its Husky reference drive for testing and quality control of Blu-ray disks and high-definition DVDs. The optical pickup head is made from stainless steel and equipped with either an 0.85-NA (Blu-ray) or a 0.65-NA (DVD) lens system. It offers a rugged mechanical setup and a high-precision spindle motor for micron-range positioning accuracy. Automatic tilt correction provides low-jitter optical readout, and astigmatic focusing and push-pull tracking result in stable servos. The signal is analyzed by a quad detector that is suitable for the violet wavelength and that provides the user with the A, B, C, D and Sum analog optical signals. Software and an RS-232 interface are included.
