IR High-Power LEDs in a Surface Mount Package
SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 31 -- Osram Opto Semiconductors Inc. has introduced an addition to its Golden Dragon line of high-performance, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which it says are the first infrared (IR) high-power LEDs in a surface-mount technology package. Osram showcased the technology last week at Photonics West.
Optimized for CCD and CMOS camera applications, the products are ideal for automotive night-vision systems and for security system illumination, the company said.
The Golden DRAGON package is designed for high-power output in a small footprint and enable designers to illuminate broad areas, eliminating the need for complex optics, and to redesign existing systems with fewer parts and less expensively. The company said this will enable new applications in the automotive, security and medical imaging markets.
Production quantities will be available in March for $5 US in 1000-unit quantities.
