DEFORMABLE MIRROR Boston Micromachines Corp. has announced the Mini-DM, a compact micro- electro-mechanical systems deformable mirror that improves resolution in microscopes, telescopes and ophthalmic instruments. The advanced wavefront control device comprises a mirror membrane supported by an underlying actuator array. Each of the 32 actuators can be individually deflected by electrostatic actuation to achieve the desired pattern of deformation, without hysteresis. The active mirror area can reach frame rates of up to 1000 Hz with a fully integrated controller and interface. The turnkey system includes a USB controller, software and a gimbal mount for easy installation. The voltage supply is adjustable from 0 to 300 V at 30 mA.
