CAD CAPABILITY Zemax Development Corp. has announced that its optical system design program now can create Cad-like complex geometries and perform Boolean operations on objects to form other complex objects that remain fully parametric so that they can be optimized and toleranced. Their surfaces are of optical ray-tracing quality. Thin-film coatings and scattering functions can be applied to any face of any object. The new capability allows users to perform CAD manipulation inside the Zemax optical system design program itself, without having to go back out to the CAD program to make changes and then reimport the objects. The user retains parametric control of the object.
