Veeco-Instruments.jpgThe BioScope II from Veeco Instruments Inc. is an atomic force microscope with a >150-µm X-Y scan range for matching the cell or the sample size to the scan area, and a >15-µm Z range for imaging large structures such as cells. Top-down optical access makes it compatible with most off-the-shelf optical components, including condensers with numerical apertures of up to 0.55. Its open ergonomic design enables access to materials such as samples and liquids as well as to probes, without interfering with the optics. A motorized X-Y stage controlled via either computer or joystick precisely positions the sample over a 10 × 10-mm range. The motorized Z-stage maintains the lateral position of the tip in reference to the optics.
