Meller-Optics.jpgAvailable from Meller Optics Inc. are custom sapphire windows that are not affected by caustic fluids such as chlorine and fluorine gas (to 300 °C) and that are second only to diamond in terms of hardness. Manufactured to specification in sizes from 1/4 to 10 in. in diameter and 1/2 mm to 1 in. in thickness, they provide a 270-nm to 4.7-µm transmission range, with up to 85% transmission uncoated and up to 99% with AR coatings on two sides. The windows feature Moh-9 surface hardness and can be fabricated with ±0.05-mm tolerance on thickness, flatness held to 0.5 fringes of HeNe, and parallelism from 20 to 2 arc sec. They withstand pressures of up to 10,000 psi and temperatures to 1000 °C.
