Camera Link System for Laptops
A new Framelink PCMCIA frame grabber will be among the mobile imaging
components Imperx Inc. will exhibit at the SPIE Defense and Security
Symposium, to be held April 17-21 in Orlando (Kissimmee), Fla. 
In
addition to PCMCIA frame grabbers for laptops and PDAs and for
single-board computers, Imperx (Booth 442) will display its
high-resolution fast programmable cameras; and Camera Link, DVI, LVDS
and RS422 adapters.
The Framelink PCMCIA frame grabber slips
into the PCMCIA slots found in most laptop computers, palmtop
computers, PDAs and many other high-mobility computing devices. By
employing the industry standard Camera Link interface, Framelink puts
high-performance image acquisition anywhere it's needed, Imperx said.
The
company said Framelink is the first digital Camera Link frame grabber
for laptops. The card features plug-n-play operation with hot
insertion/removal and includes an intelligent scatter/gather DMA engine
with a generous supply of onboard memory. A full software suite,
including drivers and applications, is provided, and an optional
software development kit (SDK) is available.
Framelink features include:
- PCMCIA Cardbus interface;
- LSmall form factor PCMCIA Type II;
- Intelligent scatter/gather DMA for fast, efficient use of PCIbus bandwidth;
- onboard memory for fast image acquisition;
- complies with the Base Camera Link standard.

it the ideal frame-grabber for engineers for industrial, medical,
security and military applications. Camera Link provides a
video-optimized download channel that is twice as fast as Gigabit
Ethernet and a low-voltage digital signal (LVDS) pathway for
bidirectional asynchronous communication between the host computer and
camera. This allows the host to upload application software,
configurations and trigger signals directly to any Camera-Link
compliant digital camera in real time, with virtually no latency.
