BERLIN, May 23, 2006 -- Lumics GmbH, a manufacturer of fiber-coupled laser modules, extends its
range of pulsed fiber laser units with a 1550 nm version offering up to
30 uJ pulse energy. The LU1550F015 is a short-pulse erbium-ytterbium
fiber laser in master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) configuration.
The pulse parameters are programmable via a USB computer interface and
the laser is controlled by a simple TTL interface. Target applications
include lidar (light detection and ranging), medical and scientific
The laser emits in a range from 1540 to 1560 nm
wavelength from a single-mode fiber with a very high beam quality,
according to Lumics. The fiber is specified at a standard length of 0.7
m terminated with an FC/APC connector. Optional collimator and focuser
are available; the key parameters such as the output power, pulse
energy, repetition rate and pulse width can be downloaded through a
Windows XP software.
According to the company, fiber lasers
offer many advantages over conventional laser technology. The high beam
quality is delivered in a flexible single-mode fiber, the limited
number of components lead to low maintenance and high reliability. The
compact size of the LU1550F015 device allows it to be easily integrated
into existing equipment.
The LU1550F015 laser is specified with
an average output power of 150 mW and the pulse energy is rated to
30 uJ. The repetition rate is adjustable from 20-200 kHz and the pulse
is specified with less than 10 ns. The beam quality is rated M2 ~ 1.1.
