FiberLogix Ltd. has launched a line of polyimide-coated fibers for oil and gas, aerospace, sensors, defense, medical and security applications. The fibers operate from –65 to 400 °C, with long-term operation at 360 °C in harsh environments. The company uses two proprietary polymers to form dual layers on the fiber glass cladding. The inner soft material protects the fiber from microbend forces and provides good adhesion to the cladding, while the hard outer thin layer provides abrasion resistance and minimizes friction. The line includes single-mode, high-numerical-aperture, multimode and 80-μm fibers.
