CW and QCW Laser Diode Drivers

BOZEMAN, Montana, Sept. 27, 2006 -- ILX Lightwave has introduced two new laser diode drivers for testing high-power laser diodes. The 80-amp LDX-3680 and 120-amp LDX-3690 laser diode drivers are precision current sources designed for testing high-power laser diodes in CW (continuous wave) or quasi-CW (QCW) modes. High setpoint accuracy, low output noise and four-wire voltage measurement, combined with an IEEE488/GPIB interface, make these current sources suitable for precision high-power laser diode light-current-voltage testing. A unique power display mode allows laser diode power to be set based on slope efficiency and threshold current parameters. External output power monitoring is supported through an independent photodiode measurement circuit.
Multiple laser diode protection features include adjustable voltage and current limits, output shorting relays and low operating and power line transients. All 3600 series drivers accept a thermistor input for temperature monitoring with programmable temperature limits affording additional laser diode protection. Dual independent interlocks are provided for further laser and operator protection.
The LDX-3600 intuitive front panel is designed for quick and easy operation without confusing multilevel menus. Dual displays allow simultaneous indication of laser current, voltage or power while at the same time monitoring laser diode temperature. Laser diode current, voltage and temperature limits are quickly and easily set, along with pulse mode parameters such as pulse width and duty cycle.
