The AS1109 launched by austriamicrosystems AG is an eight-channel constant-current LED driver that uses serial data input/output lines for information read-back during error diagnostics. The output ports accommodate a maximum of 15 V, and current can be adjusted from 0.5 to 100 mA via an external resistor. Output accuracy between channels and integrated circuits is ±2%. The device can detect open or short circuits and overtemperature conditions. In low-current diagnostic mode, 0.6-mA is applied for a short time so that the LED does not flicker during testing. Operating temperature ranges from –40 to 125 °C, and the serial interface operates at 30 MHz.
