NewScale_Tech.gifNew Scale Technologies Inc. has introduced its SQL series Squiggle subminiature piezoelectric motors that enable smaller OEM products, from consumer electronics to laboratory instruments. Standard sizes are 2.4 × 2.4 × 10 mm and 3.4 × 3.4 × 10 mm, both producing a resolution of 0.5 μm. The former operates at 8 mm/s at a frequency of ∼88.5 kHz and over a temperature range of –30 to 70 °C. Its lifetime is >300,000 cycles of 5-mm strokes, and its stall force is >100 g. The latter operates at 5 mm/s at a frequency of ∼116 kHz over the same temperature range. It offers the same lifetime, and its stall force is >200 g. Custom packaging and shaft lengths are available.
