Avantes BV has introduced the AvaSpec-NIR256 spectrometer, available with two InGaAs detector types. The noncooled version is for applications at up to 1.7 μm, and a two-stage Peltier-cooled version covers up to 2.2 μm. The device has 256 pixels and can be combined with other USB-2 spectrometers in the family to form a multichannel system that operates from 200 nm to 2.2 μm. It has a 50-mm-focal-length optical bench with f/2, and various NIR-blazed gratings are available. The instrument can sample 940 spectra per second, with onboard averaging and data transfer in 1.56 ms. Features include a Coldfire 64-MHz microprocessor and integrated RAM. Additional analog and digital input and output interfaces are standard.
