PI.gifThe V-106 QuickScan series high-speed voice coil positioning stages from PI (Physik Instrumente) LP provide up to 20 mm of travel and up to 100-nm resolution. The closed-loop systems are driven by a PCI-bus motion controller card with onboard linear servo amplifiers. Based on a frictionless, voice coil linear motor drive and a direct metrology linear encoder, they attain smooth motion with velocities to 240 mm/s. The company says that the stages attain higher dynamics than leadscrew-based units, with scanning frequencies to 20 Hz and higher for small loads. For positioning applications with high throughput, the settling time is 75 ms for 5-mm steps.
