Highland Technology Inc. has released J724, a low-profile single-channel electrical-to-optical converter. Available in 850-nm multimode and 1310-nm single-mode versions, it enables fast timing and logic-level signals to be transported via fiber optic levels to take advantage of the high speed, attenuation and electromagnetic interference characteristics of optical fiber. The rugged packaging allows the electrical-to-optical transition to be located wherever it is most convenient, and the adjustable inputs are compatible with most common logic levels. Timing link jitter is below 15 ps rms, typical, when used with the companion J730-1 850-nm and J730-3 1310-nm optical-to-electrical converters.
